Either way, it's still a small town. Locals refer to Chapin by two nicknames: The Capital of Lake Murray and Home of the Eagles. Referring to Chapin as the Capital of Lake Murray makes sense because it sits just north of the lake. "Home of the Eagles," on the other hand, may need a bit of explaining. You may think that Home of the Eagles is referring to a large population of eagles living in neighborhood trees, but nope! The nickname "Home of the Eagles" is referring to a high school mascot. Between the years 1973 and 1975, Chapin High School won multiple state championships and conference titles in football.
